If you’re considering using PLR, through your research you may have discovered that PLR has a bad reputation in the eyes of some people in the Internet Marketing world.

I have come across a blog post or two where the author would put down the use of PLR, and have unflattering names for people who use PLR.

The holders of these opinions feel that those who use PLR don’t care about their business, or that they are trying to find short-cuts to creating their own content.

Let’s take a moment and have a mature view of PLR, and how it can be used ethically.

But first, let’s entertain some of these negative views of PLR, because there are some valid points that discredit PLR:

1) True: there is a class of poor-quality PLR content that reads like it was written by a third-grader.
I have been unfortunate enough to purchase some of that myself in the past, and for a long time I also held a negative view of PLR, because the content was so poor that I could have written it better in my sleep.
However, nowadays things have changed!
More and more professional writers are seeing the benefits of writing for a larger client base, rather than focusing solely on individual contracts.
Most often, these are writers who have been earning a full-time income from their writing skills for years, and they know their topics well.
The result is high-quality, professionally written material that can be very useful for the online business owner.
I’ll even go so far as to say that any hack writer who puts out junk content will not be in business for long.
The only way to build a successful long-term writing business is to stand by your work and provide the utmost quality and value for your customers – whether you’re writing for one client at a time, or providing PLR content to many clients.
As a consumer, and content creator, I am constantly on the look-out for quality PLR. And when I find it, I don’t leave it as it is.
With my experience in the field of the PLR content that I seek out, I improve the PLR, and make it my own.
I will paraphrase and add my own experiences to the “clay ball” of PLR content that closely relates what I want to say.
It is easier beginning with a block of content that I can improve upon then starting out from scratch.

2) There is a premonition that people who use PLR content are lazy or untalented and doesn’t want to put in the time and creativity to create their own products.
It’s probably true that some people don’t want to create their own products – but I highly doubt the reason is laziness or lack of talent.
Rather, I think that many people have great ideas and knowledge but don’t know how to form it into a finished e-product.
Either their writing skills are not strong enough, or they are pressed for time, or they just happen to find a great PLR product that already conveys the ideas they would have included in their own product.
There are as many valid reasons for using PLR content as there are business models.
My client base includes professional life coaches, business coaches, relationship coaches, public speakers, internet marketers, professional bloggers and more.
These people are anything BUT lazy and untalented!
They have thriving businesses and they see real value in sharing quality content with their visitors.
Many of these professionals find it convenient to discover content that they can use to further their business without having to spend the hours of research to say what they want to say.
For example, a fitness coach may not have writing as a strong suit. This individual needs to spend time with his or her clients. However, he or she need to promote their website, and as blogging is one of the most sure fire ways to get discovered on the internet, this coach will opt for PLR, to save time and energy.
But I advise this coach, don’t use the PLR exactly as received. Add some value to it!

3) There is also a belief that PLR content provides no value to the customer who purchases it because it’s being sold on other websites as well.
This is a valid point because it’s very possible that a customer might end up purchasing the same ebook or report more than once, not realizing it’s the same material.
However, the majority of people understand the value in modifying PLR content so that it’s more unique to them.
You don’t have to completely rewrite something in order to make it unique!
What many people do is go through and insert their own comments, experiences and advice into the original copy.
They may add a few exercises for the reader to help clarify the concepts, or even bundle the original copy with other PLR material so it creates a completely new product.

The true value the customer receives is in the ideas and concepts themselves.
